Its Latin name, hasianotrochus irisodontes, builds these tiny towers of powers, known as elenchus or maireener shells.

From the tidal waters of the South Seas around Tasmania and Australia, these shell, now scarce, can still be found today (although rarely so large).

For thousands of years, the Aboriginal people of the coasts have collected and threaded necklaces from these natural shells. In the 19th century England, The Victorians, with their fascinating for the natural world, also created jewelry with shells often set in gold.

Rare to find these days, we purchased these shells from a long-time collector. In the Victorian manner, 14k gold caps and ear wires were custom fitted so these can be worn, enjoyed and admired.
