Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fine WW1 British military officer’s pocket compass as used in trenches during the Great War. It is nicely engraved as follows:

The engraving is on the base of the compass and bears a broad arrow denoting it was War Department issue. The full hunter case is in very good condition, and has been polished leaving a trace of the brassy finish on the outside that contrasts nicely with the nickel-plating on the inside. The beveled glass crystal covers an attractive jeweled dry card Singers Patent style black and white dial.

Compasses by this maker are very scarce and this is a very fine example that is in perfect working order with a strong hinge and a functional transit lock.

Measures just 2" across this in a fine example in fully working condition recently found in an Englishman's estate whose father had served in the WW1 trenches during the Great War!
