Canada Dry was invented by John J. McLaughlin a Canadian pharmacist.  In 1904, after much trial and error, he finally came up with the right formula proportions for the Canada Dry we enjoy today.  Originally called " Canada Dry Pale Ginger Ale", the slogan was “The Champagne of Ginger Ales.” (as there was already imported Ginger Ale from Ireland and England).  Just a short year later, in 1905, he filed for a patent for the new formula and for the name “Canada Dry” , he received the patent in 1907.  On January 18, 1907, Canadian authorities issued a “Certificate of Registration” for the trademark “Canada Dry” with “J. J. McLaughlin, Ltd.” as the corporate owner.  Jack died on January 28, 1914, at the age of 48 after suffering a heart attack.  His younger brothers, Robert Samuel and George M. McLaughlin, continued to manage the company to great success.
